03-OCT-10 at 08:38 UTC, the Greek Flagged Crude oil tanker CAP GEORGES, 81148 GRT, was fired on in a failed pirate attack while underway in position 15:27N, 041:31E, approx 47 NM off the coast of Eritrea in the southern Red Sea.

Roksolana 2 broke down when it was travelling from Greece to the northwestern Turkish city of Izmit Sunday, 03 October 2010 12:55. The crew repaired the breakdown, however, the ship would be anchored at Karanlik Port and would set sail after required procedures were completed.

Piracy: Seafarers taken hostage off West Africa released

Dredging company Jan de Nul has announced that six crewmen taken hostage from two ships outside the Cameroon port of Douala on 12 September have been released and have returned home.

Two of the crew came from the trailing suction dredger AMERIGO VESPUCCI and the other four were from the general cargo ship SALMA. A spokesman for Dan de Nul declined to say whether a ransom had been paid although this is assumed.
