imageMaritime accidents involving merchant ships reported to Denmark’s Maritime Authority, DMA, were up by 29 to 70 in 2008 over 2007 but only one fatality was recorded in 2008 against four for 2007, says DMA’s recently released Maritime Accidents 2009. The authority warns that the underlying casualty figures are insufficient to identify statistically meaningful trends.

Over the past decade a total of 425 grounding and 162 collisions have occurred in Danish waters including 17 in the Great Belt and the Sound. compared to 10 in 2007.
