When times are hard, sue someone believes the State of California, which is showering writs like confetti at a celebrity wedding. Yet another lawsuit, involving just about everybody they could think of, for an action that is of entirely questionable value seeking unspecified monetary damages under the federal Oil Pollution Act of 1990 and various state laws for natural resource and other damages.

Dennis Bryant of law firm Holland & Knight pretty much sums it up “It is unclear … what additional recovery California expects to obtain through this litigation (with the exception of civil penalties) that it could not obtain administratively from the federal Oil Spill Liability Trust Fund, other than publicity.  There I go again, answering my own question.“
