Claymore mines, as every schoolboy knows, have the business end marked “point this side at enemy”. If a Russian weapons manufacturers gets his way you’ll soon be seeing something similar on a deck near you.
Russia Today reports that Vladimir Korenkov of weapon maker Bazalt, wants to sell the company’s multi-barrel grenade launcher to ships to deter pirates. Pirates, of course, already own grenade launchers so the odds might be evened out.
Talking to the Novosti news agency, Korenkov makes the insightful comment: “Grenade launchers are more complex than small arms. Special regulations are needed to arm ships with them.”
Can’t wait to see the IMO STCW model course for this one.
