The Department of Justice issued a news release stating that a shipping company has been sentenced to pay $1.5 million and serve three years probation in connection an improper discharge of oily waste and improper entries in the oil record book of one of its ships. During the period of probation, the company must implement a stringent environmental compliance program and hire a court-appointed monitor.
